In a significant case of police misconduct, four officers from the Pakribarawan excise police station in Nawada district, Bihar, were arrested for extorting ₹1.5 lakh (approximately $1,800 USD) from a local youth. The arrested individuals include assistant sub-inspectors Sujit Kumar and Dilip Kumar, along with two home guard jawans, Ravinder Kumar and Gulshan Kumar. The incident came to light when Pintu Kumar Yadav reported that his brother, Santosh Kumar, was detained for carrying liquor and had been threatened with ₹5 lakh as a ransom for his release. Yadav managed to negotiate the amount down to ₹1.5 lakh, which he paid at the excise police station. Following this, police conducted a raid at ASI Dilip Kumar's residence and recovered the full extorted amount. Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal stated that an investigation is underway to determine if other personnel were involved, emphasizing that strict action will be taken against those engaging in such extortion practices.
