At the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda underscored the critical importance of ethical oversight in the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare. He articulated that while AI holds significant promise for enhancing healthcare delivery and governance, it must be governed by robust regulations, rigorous research, and a commitment to equity to ensure that its benefits reach all citizens. Nadda pointed to India's Digital India initiative, launched in 2015, as a foundational step towards building a digitally empowered society capable of leveraging future technologies, including AI.

He introduced the Strategy for AI in Healthcare for India (SAHI), which aims to guide the ethical and transparent integration of AI in health systems. Additionally, Nadda announced the Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI (BODH), designed to ensure that AI solutions are effective and equitable across India's diverse population of 1.4 billion people. Emphasizing the need for international collaboration, he called on global partners to work together in promoting ethical AI development and addressing shared healthcare challenges, reinforcing India's commitment to using AI as a force for global good.
