A doctor employed through a private agency at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, has been dismissed after being found guilty of molesting a female patient during an ultrasound on April 1. The patient, who visited the hospital for a urological condition, alleged that the doctor assaulted her during the procedure, which was conducted without a ward attendant, violating hospital protocol. Following her complaint, KGMU formed a five-member inquiry committee that confirmed the allegations after reviewing her statement and the circumstances surrounding the incident. KGMU spokesperson Dr. KK Singh stated that the doctor was removed from duty immediately based on the findings, and the attendant who was supposed to be present during the procedure was also dismissed. This incident has drawn attention to the ongoing practice of outsourcing certain diagnostic services, including ultrasound, to private agencies despite KGMU having a fully equipped department of radiology with qualified staff.
