P Chidambaram (senior Congress leader) stated that the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) should continue to exist in Tamil Nadu, despite the recent rift between the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). This split arose after Congress supported Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which has now secured the backing of 120 MLAs to form the government in Tamil Nadu. Chidambaram expressed his hope that both the DMK and TVK would remain part of the INDIA alliance, highlighting that the DMK has not publicly opposed the coalition. He noted that many allies within the alliance have historically been rivals in their respective states, yet they continue to cooperate at the national level. The DMK, which has 22 MPs, has termed Congress's support for TVK as a betrayal. Meanwhile, DMK leader MK Stalin criticized Congress for not consulting him prior to their decision, stating that the Congress MLAs did not express gratitude to the DMK for their support during the elections. Despite these tensions, some parties, including the Communist parties, have pledged to continue their alliance with the DMK to advocate for Tamil Nadu's rights and welfare.
