In response to the Ebola outbreak in regions such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda, India has implemented new protocols for airlines transporting passengers from these hotspots. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) mandates that travelers submit self-declaration forms (SDF) prior to arrival and undergo thermal screening. If a passenger shows symptoms of Ebola, airlines must move them to the rear of the aircraft and keep three rows vacant in proximity to the symptomatic individual. Airlines, including Air India and Emirates, are instructed to alert air traffic control to direct the aircraft to a separate bay for health teams to manage suspected cases. Additional in-flight measures include designating a cabin crew member to care for symptomatic passengers, providing them with masks and personal protective equipment, and ensuring thorough disinfection of the aircraft after landing. Health Minister J P Nadda has reviewed the preparedness of health authorities, urging the Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Centre for Disease Control to maintain vigilance in tracking, testing, and surveillance efforts.
