On Saturday, a fire was reported in a vacant plot adjacent to PM Shri Government High School in Phase 5, Mohali, during school hours. Approximately 250 students were safely evacuated by teachers after they noticed smoke and flames rising from the adjacent area. Around 10 teachers were present at the time, and they promptly moved the students to a secure location within the campus to prevent any panic. The fire brigade from Phase 1 responded quickly, bringing the blaze under control before it could threaten the school building or nearby residential areas. A fire department official stated that the fire was caused by dry grass and waste material in the vacant plot. Fortunately, there were no injuries or damage reported due to the swift actions of the school staff and firefighters. KK Saini, president of the Confederation of Greater Mohali Resident Welfare Associations, commended the effective response of the teachers and emergency services, highlighting their role in ensuring the safety of the students. The cause of the fire is still under investigation as authorities work to ascertain the details surrounding the incident.
