Himachal Pradesh's Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh has proposed an ambitious plan to enhance urban infrastructure, seeking ₹1,350 crore from the central government under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF). The state has outlined projects worth approximately ₹5,400 crore aimed at creating robust infrastructure and vibrant economic hubs in urban areas. Singh raised concerns about the limited revenue base of urban local bodies and the challenges faced by the private sector in redevelopment projects due to terrain constraints. He urged the central government to consider specific relaxations for hill states like Himachal Pradesh, including modifications to the population criteria and funding patterns. Singh also called for greater central assistance and support in mobilizing resources for the state, emphasizing the need for innovative funding mechanisms to address the unique challenges faced by urban local bodies in hilly regions.
