A 65-year-old man was arrested in Jorhat district, Assam for allegedly raping two minor girls, an incident that tragically led to one of the girls committing suicide. The girls had gone to the accused's house to collect mangoes when he allegedly assaulted them. Initially, the minors did not disclose the incident, but after the suicide, the surviving victim identified the assailant. Following this revelation, the families filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Teok police station, prompting police action. The accused faces charges under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, as well as provisions related to abetment of suicide. Police are currently awaiting medical examination results to further their investigation. The case has sparked protests in the community, with residents demanding justice and stringent punishment for the accused.
