On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the implementation of the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to significantly boost trade and job creation between the two nations. The agreement, highlighted by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, provides Indian exporters with a chance to diversify their markets and enhance competitiveness. Under the CEPA, Oman will grant immediate 100% duty-free market access to 98% of tariff lines, covering 99.38% of India's exports, a notable increase from the previous 15.3% zero-duty access. This change is expected to benefit various sectors, particularly labour-intensive industries such as textiles, gems and jewellery, and pharmaceuticals. Goyal described the CEPA as a major milestone in PM Modi’s vision for creating global opportunities for students, artisans, and small businesses. The government aims to improve the livelihoods of Indians through strategic trade agreements with developed countries, fostering shared prosperity between India and Oman.
