On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov urged U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to recommend that American citizens evacuate Kyiv in anticipation of forthcoming Russian strikes. During a phone conversation, Lavrov referenced a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry advising the evacuation of diplomatic personnel and citizens from Ukraine's capital. He expressed regret over the actions of European leaders and the Ukrainian government that he believes undermine previous agreements made during a summit in Anchorage, Alaska, in August 2025. Although no formal agreements were reached during that meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, both sides described the discussions as productive. Since then, the conflict has intensified, with both nations launching military strikes. Recently, a three-day ceasefire was agreed upon, along with a prisoner swap, but violence has continued, including attacks reported by Ukrainian officials in Bila Tserkva, approximately 50 miles from Kyiv. Russia has also accused Ukraine of conducting deadly drone strikes in Luhansk, resulting in significant casualties.
