On April 26, two elderly women succumbed to snakebites in Kerala, raising the state's death toll from such incidents to seven. Nafeesa, aged 65, from Muthkuda in Kannur district, was hospitalized after being bitten by a venomous snake at her home. Despite being treated with anti-venom and placed on ventilator support, she passed away. Similarly, 75-year-old Vishalakshi died after being bitten near her home in Idukki district. Police have reported multiple snakebite cases across Kerala, with several individuals hospitalized for treatment. Experts attribute the increase in snake encounters to soaring temperatures, prompting snakes to seek cooler environments. The Kerala government has announced that it will cover the medical expenses for 10-year-old Anosh, who is recovering from a snakebite incident that also claimed the life of his brother. The situation highlights the urgent need for awareness and preventive measures as snakebite cases continue to rise in the region.
