On Friday, the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch successfully dismantled a sex racket operating under the pretense of a spa in Wakad. The operation led to the arrest of the spa's owner and manager, while two women were rescued from the establishment, allegedly coerced into prostitution. Senior police inspector Nitin Gite, leading the operation, reported that since January, the crime branch has conducted raids on 11 spas and four hotels suspected of facilitating prostitution. In total, 37 women have been rescued this year, and 38 individuals have been arrested in connection with these illegal activities. Following the recent bust, Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey has mandated the closure of three spas and one hotel for a year, a continuation of prior actions where eight establishments were shut down in 2025. Inspector Gite emphasized that the police will persist in their efforts to combat illegal sex rackets in the region, aiming to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals.
