India's seafood exports have experienced a remarkable 70% increase in dollar terms from 2014 to 2025, contrasting sharply with the global seafood trade growth of only 12-12.5% during the same period. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal emphasized this achievement as a reflection of the resilience and capabilities of Indian fishermen and industry stakeholders. He noted that exports rose from $5 billion in 2013-14 to $8.5 billion by March 2025. Additionally, Goyal announced that trade discussions with the United States are progressing towards finalizing a deal that would provide preferential market access for Indian seafood exporters. This development comes after a series of productive negotiations held in New Delhi. The National Workshop on Seafood Exports served as a platform for collaboration among various government departments and industry representatives, aiming to enhance the seafood sector's growth and prosperity.
