If Volpe remains in the minors for at least 20 days, it could push back his free agent eligibility until after the 2029 season. Last year, Volpe, a 2023 Gold Glove winner, had a challenging season with a batting average of .212, 19 home runs, and a career-high 72 RBIs, but also committed 19 errors, tying for the third most among major league shortstops.
