Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced new relaxed norms for wheat procurement on Wednesday to assist farmers impacted by rising temperatures that have adversely affected crop quality. The revised standards, approved for the Rabi Marketing Season 2026-27, allow wheat with up to 70% loss of lustre to be accepted. Additionally, the permissible limit for shrivelled and broken grains has been increased from 6% to 15%, facilitating the procurement of weather-affected produce. Gupta emphasized that wheat procured under these relaxed norms will be handled separately and stored independently to ensure transparency. This wheat will be used exclusively within Delhi to meet local food requirements, with the government taking responsibility for any quality deterioration during storage. The initiative aims to prevent farmers from selling their produce at lower prices and provide them with better support during challenging conditions.
