On May 10, an unidentified body was recovered from an abandoned coal mine in Moolait Bri Sumer village, located in East Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya, India. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police were alerted by the village headman after the body was spotted in a water-filled mine. Due to the mine's depth, retrieval efforts were delayed until a team could access the site on Sunday morning. East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Pankaj Rasgania noted that the identity of the deceased is still unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
