Hampshire Constabulary Chief Constable Alexis Boon has issued an apology to the family of Henry Nowak, who was fatally stabbed in Southampton. Vickrum Digwa received a life sentence for Nowak's murder on June 1, 2025. The case gained significant attention after the release of police bodycam footage, which showed Nowak pleading for assistance while handcuffed, stating, 'I’ve been stabbed' and 'I can’t breathe.' This footage has led to public outrage, resulting in protests outside the police station that turned violent. An investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is currently examining the conduct of four officers who responded to the scene. Boon acknowledged the family's pain, stating, 'We completely get it,' and expressed hope that the conviction of Digwa would provide some comfort, although he recognized the lasting impact on the family.
