In the wake of the murder of 18-year-old student Henry Nowak, UK Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood condemned violent protests that erupted, labeling them 'completely unacceptable'. Nowak was handcuffed by police while dying from stab wounds, which has raised serious concerns regarding police treatment of ethnic minorities. Following the sentencing of his killer, Vickrum Digwa, Mahmood urged the public to refrain from violence and emphasized that all individuals are equal before the law. The National Police Chiefs' Council is currently reviewing police guidelines, which have been criticized for potentially fostering a two-tier system in law enforcement. Nowak's family expressed their distress over the police's actions, describing them as 'inhumane and degrading'. The protests, which included hundreds of demonstrators, drew parallels to the George Floyd case, highlighting ongoing racial tensions in the UK. Mahmood stated that those responsible for the violence would face legal consequences, with two arrests made during the protests.
