Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that India is implementing a plan to ensure zero human casualties during heat waves within the next few years. This announcement was made during the presentation of the President's Colour to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, recognizing its outstanding service in disaster response since its establishment in 2006. Shah emphasized the need for a proactive rather than reactive approach to disaster management, highlighting the government's commitment to minimizing casualties and property damage during natural disasters such as cyclones, earthquakes, and floods. The NDRF, which has conducted over 12,000 operations, plays a crucial role in this initiative, with 16 operational battalions and approximately 18,000 personnel across the country. Shah also noted India's growing reputation as a global leader in disaster management, urging the NDRF to prepare for challenges posed by climate change.
