Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has reported a substantial financial turnaround, with revenues rising from ₹21,000 crore to ₹25,000 crore, representing a growth of 20-25% over the last two years. The Union Minister of State for Communications, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, highlighted that EBITDA margins have surged from ₹50 crore to nearly ₹7,000 crore. This growth has been attributed to a comprehensive operational overhaul, including infrastructure upgrades and the adoption of private-sector operational practices. BSNL has successfully launched indigenous 4G technology across 100,000 towers, positioning India as the fifth nation to achieve this milestone. To regain public trust and expand its customer base, BSNL is leveraging India Post's network to distribute one-rupee SIM cards and promote its services in rural markets. The company has also focused on enhancing connectivity in remote areas, with 25,000 towers already installed as part of a broader initiative to cover challenging terrains. Additionally, the government is investing ₹1,40,000 crore in the BharatNet project to provide high-speed fiber connectivity to every Gram Panchayat, aiming to enhance digital access across rural India.
