Union Minister Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani announced that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has perfected its indigenous 4G network, positioning India as the fourth country globally to develop telecom radio network equipment. The deployment of over 100,000 towers was facilitated by collaborations with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Tejas Networks, showcasing India's technological advancements. Following initial scalability challenges, BSNL's close coordination with its partners resolved these issues, allowing for network expansion. TCS is expected to receive a follow-on order for approximately 23,000 sites after a technical specifications revision. Additionally, the government has assigned spectrum across various frequency bands to BSNL for both 4G and 5G services. Pemmasani emphasized the importance of enhancing BSNL's infrastructure, including replacing aging equipment to improve network uptime to over 95%. The government's BharatNet - 3 initiative aims to provide high-speed internet to more than 600,000 villages, with a budget of ₹1.39 lakh crores approved in August 2023.
