Ku. Pa. Krishnan, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board, announced that a committee led by the District Collector will be set up to scrutinize applicants for housing allotments under the government housing scheme. This initiative aims to assist rural residents migrating to urban areas for work, many of whom lack adequate housing. The committee will process applications, verify eligibility, and identify beneficiaries for new housing units. Additionally, the government plans to reclaim unoccupied tenements currently misused by anti-social elements and will conduct maintenance on older buildings, prioritizing existing tenants. Addressing allegations regarding the allocation of housing units specifically for Dalit residents in Saidapet, Mr. Krishnan refuted these claims, stating that no such allotments had occurred. He also mentioned that projects initiated during the previous administration in Tiruchi would be reviewed for effective utilization, and any pending projects would be expedited. Furthermore, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is expected to visit the Tiruchi East constituency soon to express gratitude to the residents, with details of the visit to be announced later.
