Vidhi Medha, a 22-year-old student from Borsad in Gujarat, was tragically killed during an attempted robbery in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, on May 15. Her family last communicated with her via video call on May 14, unaware of the impending tragedy. Vidhi had moved to St. Catharines just 15 days prior and was pursuing a degree in business management while working part-time. Her father, Kalpesh Medha, revealed that Vidhi fought her attacker, injuring him before succumbing to her wounds. The alleged assailant, Joshua St Omer, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The family is devastated and has appealed to the Indian government for help in bringing her remains back to India for final rites. Gujarat cabinet minister Raman Solanki visited the family to express condolences and support, highlighting the need for better protection for Indian students abroad. The family is currently focused on repatriating Vidhi's body as they navigate this difficult time.
