Indian Railways has sanctioned a significant ₹238 crore (approximately $28.7 million USD) investment to enhance safety on the Jammu-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra route. This initiative includes crucial slope stabilization, tunnel rehabilitation, and bridge protection works designed to address the engineering challenges posed by the region's difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that these enhancements reflect the government's commitment to ensuring safe and reliable connectivity in challenging environments. The Jammu-Katra section has been historically affected by geological issues, but with these new safety measures, the route is expected to become more resilient, ultimately serving millions of passengers with increased safety and confidence.

Additionally, Indian Railways has also approved the Kiul-Jhajha 3rd Line Project, which involves a ₹962 crore investment aimed at improving capacity on the high-density Howrah-Delhi corridor. This project will facilitate smoother movement of both passenger and freight trains, supporting industrial growth and enhancing trade connectivity across Northern and Eastern India. The new line is essential as the existing double line is operating beyond optimal capacity, with traffic demand expected to rise further in the coming years.
