Census authorities in Bihar, India, have issued a public advisory to residents, urging them not to share sensitive information such as One-Time Passwords (OTPs), Permanent Account Numbers (PAN), Aadhaar numbers, or bank details with anyone claiming to be an enumerator. This warning follows reports of cyber fraud during the ongoing Census 2027 house listing phase, which commenced on Saturday and will last for one month. Ranjita, director of the Bihar census directorate, emphasized that no enumerator is authorized to request such information. The state recorded approximately 47 lakh (4.7 million) successful self-enumerations during the previous self-enumeration drive, indicating significant public participation. Madhubani district topped the list with 5.9 lakh self-enumerations, followed by Vaishali and Darbhanga. Enumerators have begun physical verification of house listing blocks, with data collection to follow using the HLO mobile application. A toll-free helpline (1855) is available for residents to report any concerns or seek assistance.
