Seven women have been arrested in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, for their involvement in an alleged embezzlement of ₹5.5 crore from the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) office. Among those arrested are two wives of the main accused, Ilham-ur-Rahman Shamsi, a peon at Bisalpur Inter College. The investigation began when a manager from Bank of Baroda alerted District Magistrate Gyanendra Singh about ₹1.15 crore being transferred to a private account. A subsequent inquiry revealed that Shamsi had created fake identities for teachers and contractors, siphoning off funds for eight years. So far, ₹5 crore has been frozen in connection with the case, which involved 53 suspicious accounts. Shamsi has secured anticipatory bail from the High Court, while his third wife, a teacher, is currently out on bail.
