Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company founded by former OpenAI employees and led by Dario Amodei, announced on Thursday that it has successfully raised $65 billion in a new funding round, bringing its valuation to $965 billion. This valuation surpasses its main competitor, OpenAI, which was valued at $852 billion in March. The funding will enable Anthropic to meet the increasing demand for its AI services and expand its Claude model's availability across major cloud platforms including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Major venture capital firms such as Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital led the funding round, which also included $15 billion from cloud companies, with $5 billion coming from Amazon. Anthropic is also navigating a legal dispute with the Pentagon, which has labeled it a supply chain risk, a designation the company argues is unconstitutional retaliation for not granting military access to its AI models. The funding positions Anthropic as a key player in the AI sector, with potential plans for a public offering in the near future.
