India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has stated that the recent visit by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has set the stage for a significant transformation in Canada-India relations. Goyal is currently in Canada to engage in trade and investment discussions, starting with meetings with Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu. He emphasized that the relationship between the two countries will be crucial in the coming years, with both nations aiming to finalize a free trade agreement by the end of 2023. Accompanying Goyal is a delegation of over 100 senior business representatives from various sectors, including mining, energy, automotive, and aerospace, which is being hailed as India's largest-ever business delegation to Canada. Minister Sidhu noted the use of 'WhatsApp diplomacy' in their communications, indicating a modern approach to fostering trade ties. Furthermore, Canada plans to send its own delegation to India later this year to continue the momentum of these trade discussions.
