Piyush Goyal, India's Commerce and Industry Minister, arrived in Ottawa on May 25 for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening economic ties and advancing negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Canada. The visit, welcomed by India's High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh K. Patnaik, is seen as a pivotal step in rejuvenating bilateral relations. Goyal will engage in discussions with Canadian officials, including International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu and Prime Minister Mark Carney, focusing on enhancing trade and investment flows. The visit is backed by a delegation of over 100 senior executives from diverse sectors such as energy, technology, and pharmaceuticals. Both countries aim to scale up bilateral trade to USD 50 billion by 2030, with current trade volumes nearing USD 8 billion. The visit also seeks to strengthen cooperation in energy, technology, and civil nuclear sectors, amidst a backdrop of renewed diplomatic momentum following previous strains in relations.
