The niece, studying MBBS abroad, urgently needed the funds to avoid missing her upcoming exams. On May 9, Naveen was contacted by a woman identifying herself as Deepika, who suggested a method to transfer the money without incurring foreign exchange deductions. Trusting her, he sent ₹98,000 and ₹2,000 via Google Pay to the account she provided. However, after receiving the funds, Deepika became unreachable, leaving Naveen unable to contact her. Realizing he had been scammed, he filed a complaint with the CK Achukattu police. Authorities have registered a case under the Information Technology Act and local cheating laws, emphasizing the growing concern of cyber fraud targeting individuals in urgent situations.
