Jessica Campbell will not return to the Seattle Kraken for the upcoming NHL season as her contract expires this summer. Having made history in 2024 as the first woman to serve in a full-time coaching capacity in the NHL, Campbell's departure comes as the Kraken support her exploration of new opportunities across the league. During her tenure, she was instrumental in the development of players like Ty Kartye, who became the AHL Rookie of the Year, and Matty Beniers, among others. Before joining the Kraken, Campbell had a successful stint with the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the American Hockey League (AHL), where she helped the team reach two consecutive Calder Cup Finals. The Kraken, who joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2021, have faced challenges in building a stable team, having already changed head coaches three times. Team CEO Tod Leiweke acknowledged the difficulties in establishing a competitive franchise and expressed a commitment to improvement.
