On Wednesday, the Ministry of Education in India released the 'Guidelines for School Management Committees (SMCs), 2026', which replace previous norms under various educational schemes. These guidelines aim to enhance the role of parents, local communities, and volunteers in school governance, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The new structure mandates that SMCs consist of 12 to 25 members based on student enrollment, with 75% being parents or guardians and at least 50% women.
