The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) in India announced an extension of the deadline for filing the GSTR-3B return for March to April 21. This decision was prompted by technical difficulties experienced by taxpayers on April 20, which hindered their ability to file returns on time. GSTR-3B is a monthly summary return that registered taxpayers must file in a staggered manner, typically due between the 20th and 24th of each month, depending on their category. Rajat Mohan, Managing Partner at AMRG Global, noted that while the extension provides relief, it also highlights the urgent need for improvements in the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) systems. The timing of the notification led to significant last-minute pressures, with tax teams working late to ensure compliance.
