Tensions escalated in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, when a group attempted to tamper with railway signal equipment at Nidubrolu railway station. During a routine night patrol, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel observed suspicious movements near the signal system and responded to alerts about unknown individuals in the vicinity. When the GRP team, led by a Sub-Inspector, approached the suspects for questioning, they were met with aggression as the suspects hurled stones at them. To protect railway property and ensure public safety, the police fired 10 warning shots into the air, causing the suspects to flee into the darkness. DIG B Satya Yesubabu emphasized the sensitivity of railway signal systems, noting that even minor tampering can jeopardize train operations. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence from the scene, while security measures and night patrols have been intensified in the Nidubrolu railway section. This incident is part of a troubling trend in Andhra Pradesh, where gangs have previously attempted to tamper with railway systems to facilitate robberies.
