In a surprising turn of events, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has made significant inroads into the traditional strongholds of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu's central region. Founded by C. Joseph Vijay, the party secured a notable victory in Tiruchi East and saw its candidates either winning or finishing closely behind in several other constituencies. The DMK-led alliance, which had previously dominated the region by winning 37 of the 41 seats in the 2021 elections, faced a dramatic decline, managing to secure only 17 seats this time. Among the most surprising losses were those of younger DMK Ministers Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and T.R.B. Rajaa, who were seen as close to the party leadership.
