On Sunday, Mumbai hosted its first 'Janta Durbar' in Borivali, drawing more than 150 participants to discuss pressing issues related to the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). Attendees raised concerns over delays in the allotment of rehabilitation flats, unpaid transit housing rents, and biometric verification problems. The forum featured around 20 senior SRA officials, including secretary Dattu Navale, who addressed these issues directly. Union minister for commerce and industry and north Mumbai MP Piyush Goyal, the event's organizer, called for stringent actions against developers who default on rents or stall projects. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing local residents for rehabilitation housing and ensuring that all valid residents receive housing assistance. During the session, thirteen proposals for project-affected people (PAP) were approved, and five others were streamlined. Goyal announced plans for similar forums in the future, aiming to engage citizens on various issues involving different government departments.
