The Indo-Mediterranean region, historically marked by conflict, is witnessing a renewed focus on strategic partnerships, particularly between India and Italy. Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto recently visited India, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties. This visit follows Crosetto's tour of Gulf nations and emphasizes the importance of maritime security and defense manufacturing. Both countries are committed to the 2025–2029 India–Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan, which includes negotiating a Defense Industrial Roadmap and enhancing cybersecurity collaboration. Key agreements, such as the partnership between Adani Defence and Leonardo for helicopter manufacturing, aim to indigenize defense capabilities in India, reducing reliance on imports. The Indian Navy's planned acquisition of four Landing Platform Dock (LPD) vessels will further enhance its operational reach in the Indian Ocean. As both nations navigate geopolitical challenges, their collaboration in defense and security is vital for stability in the region.
