In a bid to promote fuel conservation, political leaders in western Uttar Pradesh are shifting towards environmentally friendly transport options. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal, leaders in Meerut, including MLC Dharmendra Bhardwaj, have started using e-rickshaws, e-scooters, and motorcycles instead of official vehicles. Bhardwaj made a notable appearance at a meeting in Vikas Bhavan, traveling five kilometers in an e-rickshaw despite the heat. He emphasized that such initiatives not only help reduce fuel consumption but also raise public awareness about responsible energy use. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also encouraged ministers to cut their official vehicle fleets by 50% and use public transport at least once a week. Additionally, BJP state trade wing president Vineet Sharda has committed to using an e-scooter for local travel, while Minister of State for Power Somendra Tomar announced a reduction in his vehicle usage.
