On April 29, police in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, arrested five men involved in a jewelry store robbery that occurred on April 27. The suspects, identified as Rehan, Mehdi Hasan, Shagir Ali, Mustafa, and Afzal Ali, attempted to flee on motorcycles after opening fire on the police near the Dhuriyapar sugar mill. In the ensuing encounter, two of the suspects were injured by gunfire. Authorities recovered two country-made pistols, Rs 15,500 in cash, four pairs of gold earrings, a silver ring, and two motorcycles from the suspects. The robbery took place when two men, disguised as customers, stole gold earrings while the store owner's daughter was present. She managed to catch one of the robbers, who later escaped. Police had deployed six teams to investigate the robbery, which was meticulously planned by the suspects, who had posed as spectacle sellers to survey the area beforehand.
