Bhoop Dev Shah, the newly appointed general secretary of the ruling Rastriya Swantantra Party (RSP), stated that while foreign visits will eventually occur, the immediate priority is local governance. This decision marks a significant shift from the tradition where newly sworn-in prime ministers, such as Pushpa Kamal Dahal in 2008, typically embarked on international trips shortly after taking office. Since 2014, most of Nepal's prime ministers have made India their first destination. Shah's cautious approach may reflect the geopolitical dynamics between the United States and China, both of which are vying for influence in Nepal.
