This marks the party's fifth consecutive term in the civic body. As the party prepares for a general board meeting to finalize the next mayor, the position has been reserved for a male OBC corporator, leading to heightened competition among candidates. Key frontrunners include Hitesh Barot, a former standing committee chairman from Thaltej ward, and Dharamshi Desai, who previously headed the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS). Both candidates are influential within the party and represent wards in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. Additionally, the selection of the standing committee chairman is also generating significant interest, with candidates such as Jainik Vakil and Devang Dani being discussed. Traditionally, the BJP balances leadership roles across different city zones, but this year, both top positions may go to leaders from western Ahmedabad, while roles like deputy mayor could be filled by candidates from eastern wards.
