Kamal Haasan (actor and politician) has publicly backed Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) after its significant win of 108 seats in the recent Tamil Nadu assembly elections. In a statement on social media, Haasan praised MK Stalin (Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu) for his commitment to allowing TVK the opportunity to form a government, emphasizing the importance of respecting the people's verdict. He stated that failing to invite Vijay to form the government would be an affront to the democratic mandate of the electorate. Haasan referenced the Supreme Court's ruling in the S.R. Bommai case, which asserts that majority must be established in the Legislative Assembly. Despite TVK's status as the single largest party, it still falls short of the 118-seat majority needed to govern independently, necessitating potential alliances. Meanwhile, speculation continues regarding the AIADMK's discussions with the DMK, and Tamil Nadu's governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, has asked Vijay to prove majority support before any government formation.
