Tharoor pointed out that in the election, a Muslim-majority constituency, Thavanur, elected a Christian candidate, VS Joy, while a Hindu-majority constituency, Kalamassery, chose a Muslim candidate, VE Abdul Gafoor. Additionally, he mentioned that Kochi, a Christian-majority seat, elected another Muslim candidate, Muhammed Shiyas. After facing questions on the lack of a Hindu candidate elected from a Muslim-majority area, Tharoor clarified that Sandeep Varier, a Hindu, won in Trikaripur, further reinforcing his argument about Kerala's communal dynamics. The United Democratic Front (UDF), which includes these candidates, secured 102 seats in the 140-member assembly, showcasing a significant electoral victory.
