Jitendra Shelke, a 55-year-old businessman from Shirdi, Maharashtra, died in a road accident on the Samruddhi Expressway on Friday, along with his wife Anuradha, aged 50. Their 14-year-old son, Suchit, survived with a fractured hand. The accident occurred when their car collided with a container truck near Dhotre village in Ahilyanagar district. Shelke was a prominent figure in the real estate sector and had ties to Ashok Kharat, a self-styled godman arrested for serious crimes including rape and extortion. Local police are investigating the accident's cause, though they have not suggested foul play. However, opposition leaders have raised suspicions about the timing of the accident, given Shelke's recent involvement in investigations related to Kharat. Calls for a thorough investigation have been made, with concerns about the safety of those connected to the Kharat case. The Enforcement Directorate had recently summoned Shelke for questioning regarding Kharat's activities.
