The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has scheduled a meeting on May 22 for political dialogue with key stakeholders in Ladakh, led by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. This dialogue aims to address the aspirations of the people of Ladakh, particularly demands for statehood and protections under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) have been advocating for these demands following violent unrest in September 2022, which led to the cancellation of earlier talks. The KDA expressed anticipation for formal invitations to the upcoming meeting. Additionally, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Leh from April 30 to participate in the 'Sacred Exposition of Holy Buddha Relics' from May 1 to 14, highlighting the government's commitment to the region's development. The Union Territory of Ladakh was established on August 5, 2019, after the revocation of Article 370, which had granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, leading to ongoing protests for statehood.
