The Indian government has revised the release schedule for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates, moving the annual announcement from May 31 to June 7. This change, announced by the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), will take effect starting with the financial year 2025-26. The Provisional Estimates (PE) for FY26 and the quarterly GDP estimates for January-March 2026 will be released on June 5, 2026, due to a holiday weekend on June 7. The decision aims to improve the quality and robustness of national accounts data by allowing additional time for critical datasets, which often become available with a lag of up to two months, particularly due to the 60-day deadline for listed companies to submit their audited financial results. The ministry emphasized that this revision is part of ongoing efforts to enhance data quality and aligns with international best practices in national income accounting.
