In response to recent rain-related destruction in Bengaluru, Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced that the Greater Bengaluru Authority is implementing measures to identify dangerous structures and trees throughout the city. This initiative follows severe weather that led to 10 fatalities, including seven individuals crushed by a collapsing wall at Bowring Hospital. The assessment will focus on surveying old buildings, compound walls, and trees that may pose risks to public safety. In the first phase, 448 trees have been identified for trimming or removal, particularly those with dried branches or that are completely dead. The police department, under the guidance of Joint Commissioner of Police Karthik Reddy, has compiled a list of hazardous trees, which will be communicated to the municipal corporation for action. Shivakumar emphasized that the process will adhere to regulations, including notifying the forest department. Additionally, he expressed skepticism regarding exit poll predictions, stating his confidence in his party's support among workers and leaders as he plans to meet them soon.
