Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced plans to secure international airport status for Darbhanga airport during a ceremony where security responsibilities were transferred to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The new terminal is expected to be inaugurated by the end of the year and may be named after the renowned Mithila poet Vidyapati. Choudhary emphasized the state's goal to increase annual air passenger traffic from 5 million to 50 million over the next five years, significantly enhancing air connectivity. He mentioned that tenders for new airports in Muzaffarpur, Raxaul, Saharsa, and Birpur have been issued, and operations have started at Purnia airport. The government is also focused on developing aviation infrastructure in every district, with plans for airstrips and helipads where airports are not feasible. A high-level meeting with civil aviation officials is scheduled to discuss further developments. Choudhary also highlighted the cultural significance of Mithila and the promotion of makhana, a local superfood.
