Mangaluru, located in Karnataka, is emerging as a promising destination for Information Technology (IT) and Global Capability Centres (GCC), largely due to private sector investments. Industry leaders indicate that while the government has yet to provide substantial support, private companies have proactively invested in the region. Rohith Bhat, founder of Wrkwrk, noted that around 40 IT firms have set up operations in Mangaluru over the last two years, resulting in a doubling of employment from 15,000 to 30,000. The area has also seen the creation of over 5,000 co-working seats, with expectations for this number to double in the next three years. The growth has been supported by initiatives like the Silicon Beach Programme and the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission, which have facilitated the launch of numerous startups. Furthermore, a recent feasibility study identified Mangaluru as a cost-effective location for data centre development, offering significant savings compared to major cities like Mumbai and Chennai. The government is also planning to establish a new IT park and a Centre of Excellence in fintech to further bolster the region's tech ecosystem.
