Former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has been appointed to mediate the estate dispute involving the late businessman Sunjay Kapur. The conflict arises between his mother, Rani Kapur, and his wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur. The Supreme Court, led by Justice JB Pardiwala, has requested both parties to refrain from discussing the mediation publicly. The dispute intensified after the Delhi High Court ordered Priya Kapur to preserve the assets held by Sunjay, following concerns raised by his children, Samaira and Kiaan, regarding the legitimacy of a will that allegedly transferred his entire estate to Priya. Rani Kapur has filed a suit contesting the establishment of the Rani Kapur Family Trust, claiming it was designed to deprive her of control over her estate, including interests in the Sona Group. She further contends that her son and others acted improperly after she suffered a stroke in 2017, leading to unauthorized asset transfers. The legal battle over Sunjay Kapur's estate began after his death last year, with both Rani and Priya contesting each other's claims.
